A Wooly Window Film Day

Last job of the week was at Through the Loop, a wool shop in Herne Bay. My client wanted to reduce the amount of fade that the sun was creating on the items in the window. She didn’t want the shop to be any darker, so the UV Shield Clear Window Film was ideal.

The have a nice website and you can buy your wool online. You can also buy window film direct from UV Shield as well! Did you know that? Just click UV Shield Shop

Next week I’m off to London to quote for some more bomb blast and security window film work. That seems to be getting more and more popular so fingers crossed it will go well.

Have a great weekend.

Window Film v Replacement Windows

Found this online the other day. It is really interesting as it compares the installation of window film for energy saving purposes as opposed to replacement windows.
Whereas it does state that on some occasions the only option should be replacement windows  (broken frames etc) the evidence shows that when the windows are in good repair the best value for money with the shorter payback, is definitely window film.

Quote from White paper produced in US
Energy saving films are increasingly being used worldwide to lower building energy costs by reducing excessive solar heat gain through windows.
This paper will highlight the comparative cost savings per dollar invested for retrofit of existing windows with energy saving window film compared to window replacement with new solar-control low-e windows.

Don't replace your windows. Use window film.

I read that 70% of windows in the US are replaced unnecessarily? This costly activity could be avoided by simply fitting energy saving window film! Often the window frames are sound but it is the glass that is under-performing. Be interesting to know the rate in the UK. Many of our older buildings are listed and replacement windows or secondary double glazing is not an option. Energy saving window film can be fitted and reduce the heat loss and in turn energy bills overall by up to 10%, depending on the film used.

The proof is in the using

Last week I went along to an existing client's home to fit some more window film. I had previously (last autumn) fitted Low E Energy Saving window film to their dining room window. They did not think much about it but come the deep mid winter, when the snow was on the ground, they went in to the dining room and thought it a bit chilly. It was then that they realised that not only was the radiator in that room not working, but it had not been working for a while - in fact throughout the winter months.

They had not noticed it because the window film had reflected the heat that was in the room, back into the room!

Needless to say, I got the call to go back and asked to fit the same film to other parts of the house.  As it says in the title, the proof is in the using!

UV Shield Working with Eco Customers

Last week ended on an Eco high note! We were fitting UV Shield Low E energy saving window film to a customers house just down the road. Our customer is doing everything he can to increase his insulation and so decrease his energy bills. He has an impressive array of solar panels on his roof as well. Luckily for Mr Customer, the window film is a fraction of the cost and so payback time will be much shorter. Also, Mr Customer can sit in his conservatory longer on hot days as the Eco Window Film is tinted! What a winner!

UV Shield Window Film in the Antarctic with Npower

Been networking this morning. I spoke about NPower because they have taken some of our window film to the Antarctic to test how it saves energy. Now there's a test! You can read about it here.

'Our aim was to improve the insulation of the ebase, and this involved fitting insulation to the windows, and draft excluders to the doors to reduce heat loss. As you can imagine in such a cold environment it is important to retain as much heat as possible. We also fitted thermometers and data loggers to the inside and outside of the base to track the difference in temperature over the course of the year to show the benefits that insulation can bring.'
